The arrival of DC Leila Hussain sets tongues wagging what brings this big city girl to a sleepy Northern Irish seaside town? Warm hearted detective drama in a stunning setting.
Watchseries; Wanted to like this but right off the bat we are introduced to yet another unlikeable female character with a chip on her shoulder and apparently something to prove. Don't tell her what to do, shes not going to listen anyway while she just goes around arresting people. Its a bit tragic really, not all us females are like that but thats how we are portrayed these days.

Hope Street watchseries. I love the main character Leila Hussein. She's whip-smart and very good at her job. But the suspicious, dirt-digging gossiping townspeople can go die in a fire.
From the moment Leila steps in to do her job, she's facing people being suspicious and nasty towards her at every turn.
Her own Sgt is against her, convinced there's something wrong with her. It's heavily implied that it's out of jealousy, and her meddling and back-stabbing against a fellow colleague is reprehensible.
I don't get why someone who moves somewhere to do her job would face so many stupid questions. I don't go sharing my personal history to everyone who asks, why should Leila?
And I fail to see why it would lead her colleagues to try to dig up dirt on her behind her back, instead of acting like professional coppers and just doing their jobs.
If small towns really are like this. If they really do show favouritism to the police chief's son and expect the cops to tiptoe around possible murder suspects just because "everyone knows them", then that's a load of old bobbins.
Also, all the reviews claiming how "woke" it is? Those are written by people who don't want their sad little hateful worlds to ever change, so it's best not to listen to them.

By far the weakest new series in the Britbox line up! It has all the boxes checked of an American network show...plus overacting throughout! So many above average to excellent shows on Britbox, but they definitely stumbled on this one.

I don't know; I liked it. I'm a huge fan of the dark and beautifully intense British shows that one reviewer talked about watching on a dreary overcast day but you could clearly tell from the trailer, this wasn't that kind of show. I check out trailers before I invest in a show. Anyway yes, it doesn't have the dark depth of Crime or Line of Duty. It's lighter and "easier". There doesn't seem to be the multiple deceptive plots which is kind of nice for a change. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but it's a nice change of pace. Tonight I'm sure I'll be watching something with gloriously deep and twisted motives and so forth. But this will be in my back pocket to pull out often when I need to exhale.

This isn't Vera or even Father Brown but it was still an entertaining series and I'd happily watch series 2 if one were made. Quite a lot of story was telescoped into 10 episodes so maybe, if there is another, it could take a gentler pace.

The acting is bad, the plots are stupid beyond belief but the scenery is nice and it's a British program, which is a nice thing for expats like ourselves to watch. One of those programs to watch when nothing else is available and you need some filler.
