A few hours after 1988 Halloween night, four 12 year old girls have to face a mission. Trapped in a complicated conflict, they will travel in time to save the world.
Watchseries; The premise behind this show is interesting enough, but the writers did a poor job adapting it for TV. I think it has mostly to do with poor writing when it comes to the characters.
The actors do their best with what they've been given, but that isn't much. The kids are given the full range of emotions that's expected from kids in shows like this, which means they have three settings: belligerence, sass, and angst. Such exaggeration works in comics, but on the screen it results in flat and unlikeable characters with dialogue that sounds rather forced.
Maybe things will pick up further in the season, or in the next one. For now, try the comic this was based on.

Paper Girls watchseries. Okay first of all, Paper Girls didn't rip off Stranger Things when Paper Girls comics came out first before Strangers Things became popular eventually. So that means Strangers Things actually did rip off Paper Girls, Super 8 and ET, etc. Do your research. Plus, Stranger Things is all about telekinesis/supernatural forces. Paper Girls is about time traveling. See the difference? Just because Stranger Things is a popular show doesn't mean they own 80s themes. Please stop referring all shows and movies to Stranger Things when it comes up with 80s themes. Loved how they accused them of "coping" Stranger Things due to four kids riding bikes without realizing it was very common for kids to ride bikes all the time back in 80s.
It is not surprising to read negative reviews coming from some ignorants that claim this is a "woke" show. I suppose everything is "woke" to them when it is not a white male lead movie/show. Funny, one of the solid movies, Joker did discuss mental health issues and how problematic the society was toward people with mental illness and financial struggles throughout the movie in order to show how Joker became the villain. I didn't see many comments from haters about that movie is literally woke since overlooking mental health issues which is a part of social issues. Mmm, yeah... I guess some trolls only like to call this show "woke" because of a diverse female cast without giving this show a chance to watch or reading comics. Trolls are not worth your attention.
I gave this show a 7.5 because of unusual but captivating time travel storyline, well casted, solid acting and cinematography. It has an excellent pilot that will get you hooked until the end despite a little slow-paced storyline but that's how you get to know these characters first. Some episodes do feel a little fast. There are some comedic and emotional scenes. It has some surprising plot twists. That cliffhanger has me desired for season two so I can find out more answers.
I haven't read their original comic book series yet but I consider getting these books so I can compare comic/live action. I like how they attempted to respect Paper Girls fans by duplicating these characters straight out of the comic book as if they magically bring them to life. They nailed almost every detail to match appearances in every way which amazed me. I couldn't complain. Sonic the Hedgehog movie crew should have taken a note in the first place so they didn't have to be dragged into a hot mess over a dreadful appearance of Sonic that looked nothing like anime Sonic. Gladly, they listened to fans' criticism and took some time to fix it for them.
There are not many shows like this for young girls who love sci-fi, so I believe this is perfect for them. Of course, it is also for everyone who loves sci-fi genre.
If you love strong friendship, time traveling, queer, beautiful cinematography, and sci-fi themes, then I highly recommend you to watch this.

The only similarity about the two shows is that the main characters are kids/pre-teens in the 80s... that's literally the only thing. Also, this comic apparently came about before Stranger Things.. so no, it is not a knock-off.
I enjoyed the show, it was more of a coming of age teen drama imo with a fun sci fi back story. Yes, time travel has been done before , but this has its original spin. I think the actors did well, and yes, they were annoying at times... but that's because they are supposed to be 12. 12 year olds are annoying.
I found this show a fun and refreshing watch.

These kids look at least 16 clearly the directors don't have kids it's a good show though the plot is good should've spent more time in the 80s. The future is cool though it's not a bad show definitely worth watching.

Watched in 3 days. Great job to see girls taking the lead.
Good fun, realistic, tension
Each character meeting it's future self was the key.
There will clearly be a series 2.
I'm 59 year old white male if that makes any difference.

And I'm finding it slow going. Lots of dialogue that isn't really shifting the plot forward. I'm not sure how anyone can rate this as a ten. It's not great but it's not bad either.
