A woman's quest to rebuild her life after a suicide attempt, and her struggle to understand all the things that led up to that moment.

Daisy Jones and The Six
Watchseries; The story drags along far too slowly. For those familiar with the area the scenes involving the Golden Gate Bridge are too much to stomach with cars traveling the wrong direction on the bridge given the point of origin and destination. I do love some of the ideas such as the color of the home, but overall the story lacks a reason to care about what happens.

Surface watchseries. I'm a fan of Mbatha-Raw. I'd probably watch just about anything with her. That said, "Surface" is pretty bad. I'm generously giving it a '5', mostly due to her welcome presence, but this is at best a 2nd or 3rd rate production. It's rare to hear dialogue that's this cliched outside of daytime soap operas, but they're hitting that mark here. A story about some ultra-wealthy pretty folks with problems is hardly ripe in this (almost or hopefully..) post-pandemic period. It's hard to even care one bit about these characters, or the very obvious story line. Surface is just a disappointing mess.
An lack lustre and average script played out by an average cast with average direction but what really let's this down is the terrible photography. The DOP's are one trick ponies using the "Portrait" effect incorrectly and unnecessarily, ruining an otherwise interesting or great shot with an out-of-place fake blurred effect for absolutely no reason. This effect is used so much production could have saved on expensive location shoots and filmed it entirely in grandma's kitchen! The producers should be ashamed of this one.
Gugu brought me here and she's going to keep me here. Let's face it, she made the 1st season of Apple's breadwinning Morning Show at a fraction of the actor's fee. Have you seen a more expressive/emotive face since Jennifer Jones'? She's the genuine article with that unique physiognomy and pulchritude strongly backed by pure talent. That sounds a bit sycophantic, sure, you win, but hey I'm typing this out while wearing a ringer tee with her countenance adorning it. May she win every award available for her performance in this. Gugu doesn't care if she's woke or unwoke, or is it non-woke? She's doing what she was born to do, and she's doing it oh so well. Surface clarity with some turbid depths to challenge the viewer. The writing could use a bit of white-out, erasure, or just plain do-over, but that is not Gugu's fault. She was born to be seen in the lead position and she plays this role with soul. So, yes, a star's born. Make a wish baby.
I too, I am perplexed as to why some reviewer's refer to this series as "woke." It must be because of the interracial marriage aspect of the two main characters, because I see no other sign of "wokeness" here. If it is just the interracial marriage aspect, then it's a sad commentary about the state of our culture today.
This vehicle to tell a story has been used many times before. It is done adequately here. It really depends upon the plot twists yet to come, and the motives of the characters to see how well this will be pulled off. This series is certainly entertaining, but, I fear, rather predictable. There are ample opportunities for plot twists, and surprises among the various characters. The actors are certainly up to this task of pulling this off, and do a good job with their respective roles. Will the writers give material worthy of the actor's abilities? That remains to be seen.
It is enjoyable entertainment, and I believe it is worthwhile.
So I tried this show, but to be honest it had a lot of time trying to recover in my mind as anything worthwhile once I saw that this was not a reboot of the show by the same name.
Tried to reset my mind on this new show, but I was bored and/or it was just not for me.
