Watchseries; I really enjoyed this show. It is similar in tone to Davies' other work like Man Down and Cuckoo to a lesser degree.
He specialises in awkward and inappropriate. He says the wrong thing at the wrong time. Gets weighed down by what he thinks he should say. Plus he is a buffoon. He means well but often gets it wrong, or gets it right but still says the wrong thing.
There are cringeworthy moments - lots of them. There is surreal humour - lots of it. Theres some bits skirting on the edge of being very un-pc as he playfully questions attitudes.
Each episode is a stand alone story with a guest star - all do a great job.
This is a comedy drama - its not laugh out loud all the way through - though I laughed lots.
I was surprised to see this on BBC 1 - it would not have been considered mainstream a few years ago and is similar to what you might expect on Channel 4 or maybe BBC 2. I was worried it might have been watered down. It hasn't, and the gore factor is just on the right side of not taking over.

The Cleaner watchseries. Gregg delivers with his unique humor. Love the indervidual stories in each episode. It is laugh out loud funny, with dark humor and sweet moments throughout. Hoping for a second series.

See this for what it is.. a dark comedy sitcom. Each episode got funnier. Greg at his best just being Greg no matter what part he plays. Great character acting from all involved.

I'll admit, I haven't really seen the German series this show is based, on and probably won't despite the good things I've heard about it.
That said, having seen the first episode, I found this to be an okay series. I doubt it's gonna be the next Peep Show or The Office. Nonetheless I found the writing, humour, and performances to be just enjoyable enough to give this show a chance.
Plus Helena Bonham-Carter has yet again failed to disappoint, so...

If you've enjoyed Greg's stand up or Man Down in the past then you should find plenty to enjoy, as each episode has some great gags and every now and then a little depth creeps into the story and catches you by surprise. There are also some great guest spots.
I can only assume that some negative reviewers are not fans of his humour - we watched the first 4 in one sitting and like it a lot :-)

I desperately want to like this as i "was " a Greg Davis fan. In Inbetweeners he was excellent, 1st season of Cuckoo also brilliant, got a little tiresome towards the end, similar story for Man Down. Still like him on Taskmaster although he is bolstered by Alex Horne and the guests. But this is pitiful, 1st episode such forced humour !!, second episode even David Mitchell couldn't change the monotony !! Gave up 10 mins into 2nd episode.
Sorry Greg but i think it is time to get some better writers !!
