Watchseries; Web Series review: The Fame Game streaming on Netflix.

#sanjuzzreviews #TheFameGame #netflixindia #madhuridixit A Bollywood superstar Anamika Anand ( Madhuri Dixit) suddenly vanishes without a trace. As her family and police launch a frantic search for the star, pieces of her perfectly scripted life are stripped, revealing the dark truths about the Bollywoods rich and famous.

First the pros .... Acting is top notch, Madhuri does full justice to her role as the aging star trying to hold on to her stardom .. the dhak dhak girl rocks again. A surprise package are Lakshvir Saran & Muskaan Jaferi who play Madhuris kids, Avi and Amara respectively. Awesome performances by these 2 as they hold their own against a cast of seasoned actors. Sanjay Kapoor and Suhasini Muley essaying the roles of Dixit's gold digger husband and overbearing mom resp give an earnest performance. Manav Kaul as her lover, superstar Manish Khanna is good too.

Now the cons... This is an 8 part series with each episode having a runtime of around 45 mins making it a tedious watch. In an attempt to add content to increase runtime the narrative slows down a lot making you go yawn yawn at times. With crisp editing, this cudve easily been a 6 part fast paced, gripping thriller web series.

And yeah .. there is a twist in the end which is nice, with poetic justice served once again.

However the major flaw is the extremely slow narrative which reduces this series from an excellent to an ok ok decent one time watch.

I'll go with a generous 3/5 for this one ....adios 🙂

The Fame Game is yet another Bollywood's tryst with the long format content. And I must say it is still looking for that sweet balance which it had apparently found in feature length. The Fame Game is a journey towards right direction though.

This show has two very distinct narrative structures.

The First is that of this typical Bollywood Superficial melodrama where stars with perfect hair and makeup enters in slow motion with bursting emotions. Where each and every dialogue is an eloquently crafted poetry. Where the Police instead of investigating is narrating the characters' ordeal for audience's convenience. And drama is second nature of every character.

But once you skim through this part you also found a completely different side of the story. A gritty suspense drama stacked with interesting, mysterious and flawed characters. Giving an edgy sneak peek into their lives.

Depending on what you like, one or the other might fascinate you. I personally can live without the superficial stuff and enjoy raw gritty drama instead. But alas the show was loaded more with the former.

Surely there were moments when the episode-end suspenses were enough to make you come back but then the melodrama creeps up just when you were least expecting it. And finally towards the end, the show totally give in to the superficiality at the expense of logic and sense.

Performance wise each and every actor has done a good job. They were believable enough to root for them. Writing was good at moments (as I said).

Summing up I have mixed feelings about this show. I hoped this show would fly but the show decided to stick to the grounds instead.

**Nah. I guess i shouldn't try to write filmy puns anymore... :)**

It had potential to be a GOOD show but ended up being an "ehhh-okay" show thanks, to logical flaws and bad writing.

If you're a Madhuri fan and choose to look past all these flaws, you'll see a show with half of the cast with some GOOD acting (the bad guys really make you hate them), a show with high production quality and a story that had potential, especially with an interesting ending- so not totally bad.

This could have been a 2.5 hr movie, instead of an 8 ep show but Netflix wants you to stay on. *smh* That said, you don't feel the show drag, which is a + Watch it for Madhuri Dixit (and related nostalgia, if any) or if you don't have anything else to watch.

It has become a trend to stretch a story beyond what it can. Totally defines the greed of the producers for earning more money. Problem is that ends up becoming a major headache for the viewer which is rather frustrating! This one started on a highly promising note with Madhuri rocking in each and every frame but the story and screenplay drag...This could have been avoided had it all been packed in a tight 6 episodes instead of 8. A good example would be Bestseller(Shruti Hassan) on Amazon Prime, perfectly finishes when it should. Dharma productions need to learn that for the upcoming ones.
