Watchseries; When i first saw the trailer i wasn't sure i would like this. It looked very different from the typical historical fiction series but i am hooked! It's brilliant in so many ways. I've watched the first two episodes several times and each time i am more impressed. Both the adult and younger version of Catherine de 'Medici are perfectly cast. Even my husband who typically isn't a fan of these types of shows, was watching and interested. Casting is perfect, the pace of the show is perfect and i know it's only going to get better from here if the first 2 episodes are this good. I'm so glad we finally get a real series about Catherine de 'Medici.

The Serpent Queen watchseries. All these people getting their knickers twisted because it's not this, it's not that, etc. I swear, so many people are so uptight anymore if something's not their idea of perfect. News flash, if you want an accurate portrayal of history, go read a history book or watch a documentary.
That out of the way, I love period pieces like this. Even if it's not accurate, it's still fun to watch. It's witty, funny, brutal at times, but with a great cast, great sets, and great acting. 3rd episode in and I can't wait for more!
People need to just lower their expectations and enjoy it for what it is. Nothing on TV is perfect, there's always going to be flaws or changes to adapt a story to television. Lighten up people!

First off, Samantha Morton and Liv Hill do a good job in their portrayal of Catherine; beyond that I wasn't impressed. For the most part, the storyline and dialogue seemed clunky and disjointed. One minor peeve of mine is a musical score that is far too modern for the time period. Not sure why film makers think this is a good idea; it seems out-of-place and takes away from the overall feel of a story. But that's just me.
Catherine De Medici was such a dynamic woman. It's a shame that this series won't do her life story justice. I made it through two episodes but don't think I'll take any more time to view anything further.

I really loved the White Princess and the White Queen from Starz but didn't care much for the Spanish Princess. Unfortunately, the Serpent Queen is more like the latter then the former 2. I found myself checking to see how much time was left in the episode a couple times out of boredom and my mind started wondering off about other things. I'm disappointed too because I was really looking forward to this show and I love that part of history in Italy. This was kinda bizarre and more of a historical fiction which is tolerable for me if the writing and acting make up for it. It unfortunately didn't make up for it at all. I don't wanna discourage anyone from watching this as someone else might enjoy it and everyone has their different tastes but it just wasn't for me personally.

First episode was very good!
I wouldn't give it more than an 7-8, because there are trully great shows out there and at least some of us need to give an honest review that one could at least in theory find useful.
The costumes are great, the show has a nice pace to it and as someone else already commented the music choice is a nice surprise. The performances were good and I enjoyed this first episode, even though I didn't have any expectations coming in, since I am not a historian and was looking for something light and entertaining to watch. I am no looking forward to the next episode.
With regard to the "woke" complaint. I have yet to encounter a recent movie/series review section where it isn't present. It makes me think that maybe these people are bots. But anyhow, I am tired of it and I bet many people are.
We used to be more preocupied with the movies and shows themselves, rather than the casting and whatever we imagine politics is. It is a shame that one cannot trust review section or the rating anymore.

The Serpent Queen is one of the most engaging shows out at the moment. Exceptionally well written and acted, it flows along and keeps you watching and waiting for the next instalment.
Samantha Morton dominates, delivering her lines effortlessly with both subtly and deadly force, she becomes Catherine and reminds you of how an actor can take you away.
While other shows with dwarves & dragons spend millions trying create atmosphere, this show does it with the English language.
Catherines story concludes as it does in history, I hope they pick another character from time and give it the same treatment.
