Paul Rudd and Will Ferrel are are exceptional together in this; it's interesting to see a more dramatic version of the characters. A perfect representation of mental breakdowns or any other underlining stress related experiences. I'm loving the series so far and I hope many more do too!

I don't always agree with critics, but this has a 42% positive among "top professional reviewers" at rotten tomatoes, meaning most reviewers paned this. And I agree it is in the 4/10 star neighborhood. PR flacks can organize shilling of "sexists man" votes, but the can't make a mediocre series better.

Rodger Ebert site panned it, as did Slant Mag, Hollywood reporter, Rolling Stone, Variety, NYTimes etc. The LA Times simply called it "Dull."

My experience with this watching three episode's was that it was utterly predictable and steadily cringeworthy. Ferrell is a talent but seemed to be sleepwalking or simply not wanting to be in the series. Rudd has always played the same moderate anxiety nebbish, and does here. That is fresh for about one minute.

Folks we are in the post-golden age of TV. Audiences are now used to sophisticated, quality entertainment, yet junk like this also manages to get made as well.

4/10 at best.

'DON'T sit under that Apple Tree, with ANYONE ELSE BUT ME!!! ' ;D I love both Ferrel and Rudd together, but I gotta say this is a bit depressing. It has it's sweet and funny moments too. But with each new episode, we see how Rudd is gonna do the same type of damage he's initially saving Ferrel from suffering at the hands of other's around him.

It's like Rudd realized, WoW, I just landed myself a GOLDEN GOOSE!! :o. Shame on YOU DocTor!! :(

Its ok like the back ground music while your blogging .... Its just there with no real presence other than noise to fill up the space .

I am not buying the Jewish accents it's probably because it's Will Farrell and Paul Rudd ... but not as funny as i hoped it's just a bit sluggish ... maybe it will get better and I can always chnage my review.

Admitting my biases up front, I've never been a huge Will Ferrell fan (for me, the funniest moment in one of sketches was when he was pretending to be President George W. Bush on his Texas ranch and gets spooked by one of his horses). And while I like newly crowned "Sexiest Man Alive," Paul Rudd (Who doesn't? He's a very likable dude!), he's not right for all possible roles. This miniseries pairs the 2 as a patient and his shrink, respectively, and is based on Bloomberg journalist Joseph Nocera's nonfiction book. People usually go to a therapist to help with all their dysfunction, and Ferrell's character of Marty is no exception. He is working on his relationships, both with his career successes and his sister, Phyllis, played by Kathryn Hahn. But she is the first to notice the rapidly growing dysfunction in Marty's sudden and far too intense relationship with "Doctor Ike." My problem with the dark comedy here is that it never rises to next-level funny, or at least it didn't for me. From a base of 5/10, I've added a star for the fact that Kathryn Hahn improves anything which she appears in, and this is no exception.

This is the perfect forum for Rudd and Farrell. Their quirky chemistry is evident right off the bat. I love the way it obliquely goes for the heart. It's unlike anything else I've seen in a while. Looking forward to the whole season.

Masterfully acted by Ferrell and Rudd and that in and of itself makes the series worth watching, however it's tedious and cringe inducing to see the manipulation unfold and it feels like real work while watching - even knowing this happened in real life doesn't elevate viewing satisfaction.

I had hoped to low key chill and just have some fun watching these two - this isn't it.

I don't think this series is as bad as some are saying..There is some funny stuff in this. I never was a WIll Ferell fan but I like Paul Rudd. Ferell plays a whining man with anxiety issues which should get laughs but becomes boring after awhile.... Rudd's grease ball type a user of a man that sees Ferell as his cash cow and a way to make himself look important is pretty good. With quick snippets at the beginning of the first two episodes shows things will not go well with Marty and Dr. Ike......It's obvious that the good Dr. Will end up destroying Marty by making him totally depending on this terrible opertunist...even though I am sure what is going to happen it still is a good watch....

Been waiting for this and was not disappointed. I think every review should come with an age. I'm 44 and they don't make them like they used too.

I thought this was intelligentl, interesting and well acted. I love Will Ferrell, I think he is a comedy genius (sometimes) and I think he can turn his act to seriousness when the time calls for it. He's somewhere InBetween here. Really enjoying this show and Paul Rudd is fantastic too.

So much rubbish that disappoints but I'm looking forward to each episode.

I am not sure exactly what I expected from this show but certainly not this. I imagined much more especially from Paul Rudd and Kathryn Hahn. I have seen this classed as a dark comedy but even a dark comedy is funny. This is just blah, depressing, uninteresting and drags on and on. Not often do I watch something and think 'oh please, just get on with it already'. AND a 6.8 score for this?

Title says it all. A fine production - humour, artistic and wonderful cast.

My partner and i watched the first episode and exchanged looks. We knew this would not be our cup of tea nor will it be for others.

Based on first impressions in this case we have decided not to watch on. The long winded story line was not enough for us wanting to invest.

A few scenes made us laugh out loud but it's not fun, lighted hearted comedy (if that is your preference). It's more a twisted tale of real life and people presented in a way that is sometimes deep, sometimes bitter and other times scoffs at the craziness of relationships and such behaviour.

Others will love this, watch and decide for yourself. It might end up being one of those shows that you watch and see yourself in some characters or ask yourself what would you do, what lengths are worth it?

SimonSaysSmallScreen 18 November 2021

I will watch anything with Kathryn Hahn, because she is exquisite. Paul Rudd is reliable, and Casey Wilson as well. But, I have never seen Will Ferrell playing a character with this depth, and he kills it. This alone would keep me coming back, but this is also a fun and engaging story. So, I love it!!
