Watchseries; I was looking forward to this and it had a great look of quality about it !!
After watching the first couple of episodes it had got nowhere and just became the bland rant about politics and all from a certain angle that we've got used to with the BBC
It's supposed to be an adventure!! Never go close and I guess in a few episodes it's whole audience has vanished with boredom.

Around the World in 80 Days watchseries. So David Tennant agrees to make a film, takes the money, does the performance then after it's a wrap trashes his character? Here's a hint: if you want to motivate a mostly British audience to watch your show it doesn't help to tell them that Phineas Fogg represents a lot of what was wrong about the British empire. Notice that he didn't turn down the role, refuse the paycheck, donate his salary to charity, etc. Instead he decides to go woke and let the production go broke after he gets his.
The production itself looks like something that was made by people who didn't have any empathy with their characters. They didn't think it was worth doing. I agree.

A really poor adaptation of a classic novel. As with most new BBC adaptations this has very little to do with the novel of the same name and has had characters changed completely such as Inspector Fix being changed from a policeman to a female reporter. Fogg is nothing like the character in the book and is instead a bumbling Englishman who you would expect to be played by Hugh Grant rather than David Tennant. If they are going to change things so drastically wouldn't it be better just to do a brand new drama with an original storyline rather than yet another "reimagining"

Writing this while watching the third episode. It's rather enjoyable so far, plenty of drama and adventure. Obviously, the 21st Century updates will trigger the unevolved who shriek of misandry and wokeness; that just works in its favour.

I have not read the book and see that some of those that have are disappointed by this series. Free of such preconceptions I found this an enjoyable watch. Best was to see the three main characters develop and grow through their adventures, especially Mr Fogg.
So, if you have read the book I urge you to free yourself of any expectations and enjoy this in its own right. The book is a recognised classic and this is not, but this will entertain you if you can allow it to do so.

There is a biblical principle that is worth taking into consideration, even for secular and semiscientific fiction, particularly when evaluating them.
This principle is: Do not add to or take away from the original. Of course one cannot be absolutely perfect when it comes to this in making a film or a series, but still.
This mini-series has so many additions to the original, while at the same time so many omissions from the original that even those that have been made earlier - and are deemed poor - are to be considered better.
David Tennant makes a decent role, as Phileas Fogg, but that is about the only positive thing that may be said about this product.
Shame on the people. Jules Verne is rotating in his grave.
